Dress Code

All items on this list may be purchased from Sandy’s Dancewear Too in Plano, or Upstage Dancewear in McKinney – both establishments have our dress code on file.  There are several websites from which you can purchase your items. If you order from Discount Dance Supply, use Teacher Code TP28612 to receive a discount.  Wherever you shop, it is a good idea to call ahead to make sure the items are on hand.

BOYS

White T-Shirt, tucked in, black shorts, white socks, black ballet shoes. Shorts should be replaced by black tights at the upper levels.

Please note that leg warmers, etc., may not be worn in class unless they are worn over an injury.  Any dancer who is cold is welcome to wear a sweater for the first part of class until he/she warms up.  Skirts are not allowed until Level VII.   No jewelry except for small earrings is allowed in class. Any dance shoes seen being worn outside of the classroom will not be allowed in class, as they have the potential to destroy dance flooring. And PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE wear a cover-up when going to and from dance.

We recognize that achieving the hairstyle for ballet is probably the most challenging aspect of the dress code.  We would be happy to give a quick tutorial on how to make a bun, so please feel free to ask.  For those who want a less challenging solution, we will have hairclips for sale at the studio that make fixing hair for class a snap.  Any hair that is too short to make a ponytail must be held back by a headband.  Dancers may wear any ornament in their hair.

One last word about in-person purchases vs. on-line purchases.  Items on our list can be purchased on-line with lower prices (although once shipping fees are added, this may not be true).  Please do not go to any dancewear store and get fitted for the proper size and then leave without making a purchase so that you may buy on-line.  You pay a higher price for shoes in a local store because you are paying for the convenience of trying on shoes, etc, to ensure a proper fit.  You are also paying for the time and expertise of the staff of the store.
